In one week, the number of infections in the UK has increased by 243 percent.

The vast majority of these with the delta variant, formerly called the "Indian mutation".

According to British authorities, the delta variant is up to 60 percent more contagious than the alpha variant, formerly known as the "British mutation".

- The delta variant is the biggest concern right now.

In Sweden, it is particularly observed in Värmland, Johan Carlson said during a press conference he held together with Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) on Friday.

The third dose may be appropriate

In addition to Värmland, outbreaks have also been seen in Blekinge.

After Kronoberg reported its first case on Friday, the variant has now been found in 13 regions.

Due to the proliferation of the delta variant, Carlson cannot rule out the possibility of a third dose of vaccine:

- We are looking at whether it is necessary to give a booster dose to particularly at-risk groups - older people and people with underlying diseases - if it turns out that the protection may disappear earlier.

There may be a possibility that we will recommend a booster dose during the winter, says Johan Carlson to TT.

"Our vaccines work"

According to Sky News, Pfizer's and AstraZeneca's vaccine may provide poorer protection against the delta variant if only one dose is given.

However, the difference was small after two doses.

Something Johan Carlson pointed out during Friday's press conference:

- Our vaccines work against all variants.

All our vaccines that have been taken in two doses.

Everyone who is offered a second dose should take it.

To date, 42 people in the UK have died with the delta variant.

Of these, seven had received the first dose more than 21 days earlier, twelve had received a second dose more than 14 days earlier.

Of the 42 dead, 23 were unvaccinated, Sky News writes.
