The first case was found in May.

The person in question had been infected in another country and the trace of infection did not show further spread.

On Thursday, Västerbotten's second case was found.

This person had not been infected in Västerbotten either, but in another part of Sweden.

And the infection tracing in this case also has no information that someone else has fallen ill.

Screws on the infection trace

Due to the threat from the delta mutation and other possible future variants, it has been decided to review the infection tracing to further increase the quality.

Among other things, they have chosen to move the boundary of who they contact in infection tracking.

- Before, the limit was to be exempted in the case of infection tracking if three weeks have passed after the first dose.

Now we have screwed up that limit and in order not to be contacted by the infection tracking now, it must have been two weeks after the second dose of vaccine.

In this way, we capture many more people.

More contagious than British

Data suggest that the delta mutation is more contagious and leads to a higher need for hospital care than the British variant.

And according to Stephan Stenmark, it is another reason to stick to the recommendations that exist and not think that the pandemic is over.

- We have a nice development, it's good.

We have found these cases and we do not have a general spread of this variant.

But we must keep in mind that there may be a spread of this variant in Västerbotten, says Stephan Stenmark.
