In 2020, the technical administration in Boden had to take care of 125 scrap cars, which cost the municipality almost SEK 175,000

Production manager Ellinor Isaksson-Larsson at the municipality of Boden thinks that the work of taking care of scrap cars is not something that the municipality should have to do.

- It feels like an unnecessary task for a municipality.

The municipality of Boden has a responsibility for sanitation, but these are vehicles that are dumped in forests and land and those who do such things commit an environmental crime, she says.

Hard to get hold of the car owner

It is always the vehicle owner who is responsible for transporting his vehicle to an image fitter.

When it comes to "dumped" scrap cars, it can in many cases be difficult to get hold of the car owner.

- We always try to invoice the vehicle owner as far as possible, but in some cases the owner may have left the country or it may be completely impossible to collect this money, says Ellinor Isaksson-Larsson.
