In early April, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Russian side was ready to revive relations with the European Union, but would not knock on a closed door.

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, did not rule out further degradation of relations between the European Union and Russia.

Later, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reacted to the EU ambassador's statement that relations between Moscow and Brussels are "at their lowest point after the Cold War."
