Closed swimming pools, limited number of people in changing rooms and fewer places at the swimming schools.

A clear effect of the corona pandemic is that fewer children go to swimming school.

Few children have also had the opportunity to go swimming as many swimming pools have been closed to the public, including in Umeå.

- Some municipalities have had the swimming pools closed during the entire pandemic and others have been open for periods, but the public has been hit hard when it has been difficult to go swimming and play in the water, says Jill af Edholm, area manager for swimming at the Swedish Lifesaving Society.

The schools' swimming lessons have also been affected and in some places completely canceled, according to the Swedish Lifesaving Society.

Great concern for the summer

Ahead of the summer, the anxiety is now great.

This weekend, two drowning incidents occurred, a child died in a pool in Olofström municipality in Blekinge and in Skråmträsk in Västerbotten, a boy was close to drowning at a bathing spot.

- The pandemic has led to more and more people seeking water and many may have bought a boat, at the same time few have been able to maintain their water habit, we see an increased risk of more drowning incidents, says Jill af Edholm.

And it's not just children who can not swim.

In Sweden, there are around 1.5 million adults who lack swimming skills.

Hear what worries the Swedish Lifesaving Society before the summer and how to think to avoid drowning incidents, in the clip.

Hey!

There is an increased risk of more drowning incidents this summer, according to the Swedish Lifesaving Society.

This is because many swimming pools have been closed during the pandemic.

Do you as a parent feel safe with your child's water skills?

Do you have any tips on how to practice yourself?

Children about summer swimming schools: "It is important to be able to swim otherwise you can die"

It is important to be able to swim, it is the four classmates we meet in Avesta who completely agree when they show the swims and tell about the thoughts about why it is so important to learn to swim.

Swimming is like cycling - it must be practiced regularly if you want to gain sustainable knowledge. So the irrationality of closing down the swimming pools so that it has not been possible to train their water habits and swimming skills is something many children have to pay for. We ourselves have reduced to other things in order to be able to afford to sleep in a hotel with a pool area over some weekend a month so that the kids have been able to swim.

As a guardian, however, it still applies and always - regardless of conditions (even if the children have good water habits and are able to swim) to keep track of your children on the beach.

And if they are very small / water-savvy and there is no shallow beach, I can recommend life jackets and life jackets - put them on before the children have even set foot on the jetty.

Then they are visible and they are safer in the water.

Do you want to do something really good for your children - swim together instead of pressing on the beach with your mobile phone in hand.

Best learning - model learning ;-)

Not everyone is in the swimming pool in ordinary years either.

We are extremely rarely there and the kids work just like all the other kids at Ume Lagun anyway.

Elders have learned to swim with the school.

Think they learn when they are mature.

Four rounds of swimming school resulted in nothing really.

@Linda

Let the kid play and have fun, soon he will get it together by himself or with a little teaching but not all the time.

It will come with time, I am completely convinced of

Good luck and enjoy playing in the water

I am completely against arm puffs and swimming rings.

Provides a false sense of security for both children and especially parents.

Children need to learn to respect water, but that does not have to mean fear.

My children have learned to swim as easily as possible, and I have always been involved and supported and encouraged.

It is not dangerous to get a cold drink, not dangerous to end up under water a little, but teach the child to handle the situation.

Real seat cushions can be helpful,

and an adult present is a must.

Those who can not swim should not be in seawater. Sharpen your irresponsible parents!

We have no bathtub and our children have not been to the swimming pool at all in a year type.

Gets very unfamiliar to them now when we go to the beach.

You simply have to keep track!
