Jean-Luc Mélenchon claimed Thursday in the Jura being "a problem" for the "traditional left" which he dominates in the polls, after Arnaud Montebourg designated him as "a blocking factor" for the unity of the left.

"I understand that for the traditional left, I am a problem, since in the polls the ratio is one to two: they are behind and I in front", declared the leader of rebellious France during a visit to the site of the MBF Aluminum foundry in Saint-Claude, whose 271 jobs are threatened.

"That people rather come to see me and discuss with me to find out what in my program, not in my person, in my program, they have a problem with," he continued.

"We could talk about it, maybe I could convince them, maybe they could convince me that I was wrong on this or that point."

According to the candidate for the 2022 presidential election, "personalizing, psychologizing politics is the best way to stop playing politics".

"But Mr. Montebourg does not surprise me and I have good hopes because already in 2017, he asked me to withdraw" before "to announce that he had nevertheless voted for me" and not for the person whom he originally supported, he added.

"You will see, it will end well, he will vote for me," concluded the Insubordinate in an amused tone.

Arnaud Montebourg had estimated Thursday on France Inter about Mr. Mélenchon: "He was the solution in 2017, I voted for him. But today it is the problem of the left, a blocking factor" for the unit.

The MBF Aluminum foundry, threatened with closure, manufactures engine casings and gearbox components.

Any takeover offers must be examined on June 15 by the Dijon commercial court.
