The government has decided to demolish the Gariwangsan Alpine Stadium, built for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, and restore it to the forest.

The Office of Government Policy Coordination, the Ministry of Environment, and the Korea Forest Service announced today (11th) that they have accepted the decision of the 'Council for the Rational Restoration of Mt. Gariwang,' and set up a plan.

Gangwon-do will operate an ecological restoration promotion team, establish a restoration plan, and discuss with the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Forest Service within this year.

Gariwangsan Alpine Stadium, built on the premise of restoration, cost hundreds of billions of won to build, but after the closing of the competition, conflict arose over the restoration of the entirety and the preservation of some facilities.
