On June 9, local time, a building in Gwangju City, South Korea collapsed during the demolition process. The collapsed material pressed a bus carrying passengers on the side of the road, causing 9 deaths and 8 serious injuries on board.

  Yonhap News Agency quoted the local fire department as saying that a five-story building that was being demolished in the east district of Gwangju suddenly collapsed at around 16:22 local time.

A bus parked at a nearby bus station was buried by the collapse, causing many casualties on the bus.

  According to the report, eight staff members used excavators to carry out demolition operations in the building when the incident occurred, and they fled in time after discovering the abnormality.

So far, no injuries to construction personnel and pedestrians have been found.

The search and rescue work for the buried people in the bus has ended, and the fire department is confirming whether there are other people buried besides the bus passengers.

  South Korea’s local police and fire department said they would jointly investigate the cause of the accident.
