The Louvre, a famous French museum with a history of 228 years, is about to welcome its first female curator, art history expert Laurence des Cars (Laurence des Cars) on September 1st.

This is the first time a woman has held this position in the world's largest museum in more than two centuries.

Affected by the epidemic, the number of visitors to the Louvre plunged 72% last year, and the reopening also faced various challenges.

The French Ministry of Culture issued a statement stating that the first task of the new curator Lawrence was to establish a dialogue between ancient and contemporary art. The government believed that his experience, especially his ability to deal with crises, could be applied to the management of the Louvre.

Lawrence served as the curator of the Orangerie Art Museum and the Orsay Museum in 2014 and 2017, respectively.

Under her leadership, the number of visitors to the Orsay Museum continues to grow.

Lawrence, 54 years old, came from a scholarly family and is the granddaughter of the famous French journalist and novelist Guy des Cars.

Lawrence graduated from Paris-Sorbonne University and was an expert in art from the 19th to the early 20th century.

She was involved in the Louvre Abu Dhabi project in the United Arab Emirates from 2007 to 2014, which is part of a 30-year agreement between the city of Abu Dhabi and the French government.
