The now 24-year-old man is also convicted of gross receiving, gross negligence, gross illegal driving and of having escaped from the traffic accident that occurred when he and the other robber tried to escape from the scene in a stolen car.

Tie the family together

It was at the beginning of August last year that the owners of the Ica store in Böda, who live in the same house as the store, were surprised by the two masked men who threatened them with a knife and crowbar.

The robbers tied the family to hands and feet and locked them in a locker room in the store before leaving the scene in a stolen car.

Shortly afterwards, they crashed into the stolen car and then fled the scene on foot.

They received a total of SEK 400,000 in cash but also stamps and tickets.

The robbery was not considered serious

The other robber was sentenced in the district court for aggravated robbery to six years in prison.

A verdict that the Court of Appeal later changed to five years in prison for robbery because the victims were not physically injured in the incident.

Kalmar District Court now makes a similar assessment as the Court of Appeal and thus convicts the man of robbery but not aggravated robbery.

They state in the verdict that the crime was ruthless but that it still does not reach what is considered serious in the law.

In solidarity with his accomplice, the man must also pay damages of SEK 35,200 to each of the four family members.

The 24-year-old denies all crimes and having been on Öland at the time of the robbery.
