At each stage of this tour we will make it clear: the United States is back and the democracies of the world are united to face the greatest challenges and the most critical issues for our future,

America leads not by the example of its power but by the power of its example is another of the American president's favorite phrases, and Joe Biden repeated it as soon as he arrived on European soil on Wednesday evening.

500 million doses of vaccines

The president wants to turn the Trump page, and renew a solid alliance with his partners. Just before taking off for Europe he reaffirmed his intention to make it clear to Vladimir Putin and to China that the United States and Europe were united. Joe Biden added that he will announce a global strategy to fight the coronavirus pandemic. He is expected to announce this Thursday that Americans have bought 500 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine and that they will be distributed to around 100 countries around the world. But the American president will have to do more than speeches to convince his partners: the shadow of his predecessor still hangs over the influence of Donald Trump on the Republican Party that no one can predict whether the return of the United States to the international scene is sustainable.

Despite the president's concerted efforts, the country remains deeply divided.
