During the second wave of infections last winter, Gävleborg's statistics pulled away on the number of deaths as a result of covid-19.

According to regional councilor Jan Lahenkorva (S) and the report that the region is now presenting, this is because Gävleborgers have a larger proportion of people with underlying risk factors than the rest of the country, and this in itself is a consequence of large class gaps:

- We have an unequal society with a low level of education, relatively high unemployment, a high proportion of overweight and diabetes, says regional councilor Jan Lahenkorva (S).

Do you see any signs that your handling of the corona crisis is the basis for the high excess mortality rate?

- The report can not confirm such a thing, Lahenkorva (S) answers.
