The corona pandemic with distance education has made it difficult for students in the ninth and final year of upper secondary school in Landskrona.

More than usual have not passed approved grades.

That is why the municipality is now arranging special summer tuition especially for these first-year students - where they are paid to study for three weeks.

- We see it as a holiday job.

These students should not have to choose between reading grades or working, says Lisa Flinth (L), chair of the education committee.

The interest among the students has been great, the 200 places offered have been used up.

Doubtful if it is equal treatment

The National Agency for Education has no problems with summer teaching per se

- It is up to each municipality to support students based on their own assessments of what the need looks like, says Sofie Lundkvist, head of the state subsidy unit.

However, she is hesitant that students are paid to read their grades.

Partly in view of the students who have passed approved grades.

Partly because Landskrona also arranges a traditional law school for students who need to read the grades - but who do not get paid.

- There can be problems with, among other things, the principle of equality and give double signals, she says.

In the video above, both the municipality and the National Agency for Education develop their views.
