The day after the slap addressed to Emmanuel Macron in the Drôme, his attacker is still in police custody for violence against a person holding public authority.

In the aftermath of the incident which provoked unanimous indignation in the political class, the investigation is continuing.

Two 28-year-old men, including the one who slapped the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, are currently in police custody.

The motivations of the aggressor, Damien T, unknown to justice but described as a fan of medieval history following the royalist extreme right on the networks, still remain unclear.

But the latter risks in any case up to 3 years imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euros.

In particular, investigators will need to determine whether the assault was prepared or expedient.

His custody for violence against a person holding public authority can be extended until Thursday noon. 

"No specific offense for the president"

Questioned by Europe 1, Céline Parisot, president of the Union Syndicale des Magistrates, gives some details about the sentence incurred by the aggressor.

"At a minimum, he risks 3 years imprisonment and a 45,000 euros fine," she explains, "because even if the violence does not necessarily have physical consequences on the person of Emmanuel Macron, they are violence against a person holding public authority in the performance of his duties. "

On the other hand, she specifies, "there is no specific offense for the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, or characters like that".

Of course, she adds, "the fact that this is an offense against the President is still very exceptional."

And to conclude: "It is relatively marginal, it is one of the elements that will be taken into account, but it is not a very dominant element compared to the others."
