The accident took place on Sunday, around 1:30 p.m. Two people who were sailing on the Sarthe in a kayak, at Le Mans, fell into the water while they were in a dangerous area.
A woman, in her thirties, has since been reported missing.
But according to

, the search was interrupted at the end of the afternoon, when there was no longer any chance of finding the victim alive.
A man of the same age was saved.
Seriously injured, he was in cardio-respiratory arrest when he was taken care of by the thirty firefighters mobilized.
He was resuscitated by the emergency services, then transported to hospital, the newspaper said.
A dangerous dam
In parallel, the police opened an investigation to understand the circumstances of the tragedy.
It seems that the two people were sailing against the current on the river, near a dam which should not be approached, due to the strong eddies.
