Technical problem with the plane delays the US Vice President's travel to Guatemala

The plane, which was carrying US Vice President Kamala Harris on her first foreign flight, encountered a technical problem on Sunday, causing a delay in its flight to Guatemala on a tour that also includes Mexico.

A spokeswoman for Vice President Simone Sanders said that less than half an hour after the government plane took off from a military airport near Washington, the plane had to return to the airport for a change.

"It's a technical issue," the spokeswoman added. "There are no major safety concerns."

Harris' official visit tomorrow and the day after tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday) will focus on immigration and economic cooperation, and his first stop will be Guatemala City.

Emiri President Joe Biden has tasked Vice President Harris with taking the lead in curbing immigration from Central American countries to the United States.

"To them, I'm fine, I'm fine," Harris gestured to reporters as she got off the plane and was quoted by Bloomberg as saying.
