• A young disabled photographer from Lille had his electric wheelchair stolen.

  • A scandalized tweet from his sister was widely relayed and commented on.

  • An online fundraiser has been launched to help finance the purchase of a new chair.

A young photographer from Lille experienced the sad misadventure of having his means of transport stolen.

Except that he is disabled and that means of transport was his electric wheelchair.

Resigned to never find him, Cliff Chan appeals to the generosity of Internet users to try to repair the stupidity of such a news item.

It was the young man's sister, Eva, who had taken the initiative to make this story public.

In a widely relayed and commented tweet, published last Thursday, she explained that her brother had his wheelchair stolen while going to visit a friend, Wednesday evening, rue Vantroyen, in Lille.

The building being inaccessible to people in wheelchairs, Cliff had left his in the entrance, his handicap allowing him to walk a little.

When he came back down, there was no more chair.

"This flight deprives me of all the mobility for which I fought"

"I don't know who can do this kind of thing, but if you ever see something, don't hesitate to DM me," her sister reacted, scandalized, in a tweet relayed more than 11,000 times. But that had not made it possible to find the device and Cliff, immobilized, resolved to throw a bottle into the sea in the form of an online jackpot. "This flight deprives me of all the mobility for which I have always fought," he laments.

The objective of this pot is therefore to collect 6,890 euros, ie the price of "an electric wheelchair with basic options", assures the photographer.

And as quickly as his story took it all off Twitter, the prize pool went up.

This Monday, more than half the price of the chair has already been funded.

In return, Cliff offers prints of his photos for donations from 50 euros.

Works that Solid'Art visitors were able to discover in part last weekend at Lille town hall.
