At least 33 people were killed and several others injured when two trains collided in southern Pakistan on Monday.

Railways Minister Azam Swati said the accident occurred in the southern province of Sindh when a train derailed and collided head-on with another train.

Swati said rescue operations to retrieve dead and injured people from the wreckage were still going on.

One of the rescuers, Amjad Ali, said that between 20 and 30 people were still stranded.

At least 50 people were injured in the accident and were taken for treatment to hospitals in the city of Gotki, where the accident occurred.
