Emergency services have been deployed more than 200 times from Thursday evening to Saturday afternoon due to thunderstorms and heavy rain in Frankfurt am Main.

As the police announced on Saturday evening, the fire brigade was called to 85 missions on Thursday evening alone.

Most of the time, it was about full cellars, flooded underpasses and streets, and occasionally even fallen trees.

The districts of Niederrad, Sachsenhausen, downtown Frankfurt and Gallus were particularly affected that evening.

During the course of Friday, 20 missions were recorded due to the rain from the previous day.

In the afternoon, the fire brigade had to move out about ten times due to a minor thunderstorm, mainly because the basement was full.

After a major thunderstorm with heavy rain on Saturday afternoon, the fire brigade were again reported about 90 missions.

Again it was about flooded cellars and streets as well as fallen trees.

The districts of Sindlingen, Zeilsheim, Sachsenhausen, Niederrad and parts of the city center were particularly affected.

According to initial findings, no one was injured in the incidents.

Several floods and traffic accidents occurred on Saturday due to thunderstorms and heavy rain in East Hesse and resulted in hundreds of fire services. According to the police, 330 operations were registered in the Fulda district during the afternoon, the majority of them in the Fulda urban area. It was mainly about flooded streets, popped sewer covers and full basements. There were no injuries.

There were four accidents on the motorways around Fulda, the police said.

In one of them, a driver overturned his car after losing control of his vehicle on the wet road and straying from the road.

He and his passenger were rushed to hospital with minor injuries.

No one was injured in the remaining accidents.

The L3144 at Alsfeld-Eifa in the Vogelsbergkreis was temporarily closed due to flooding.
