According to the police, around 350 cyclists demonstrated on Sunday in East Hesse on the autobahn.

They drove on the A 7 and A 66 for around 40 minutes. The participants called for a rethink in transport policy.

The motto of the event was "Stopping the construction of the motorway: converting roads instead of building new ones".

"The mobility transition means that everyone can easily get from A to B in everyday life, even without a car," argued the organizers.

“For this, local public transport, cycling and walking must become real alternatives everywhere.” Building new motorways or federal highways is “no longer acceptable in times of climate change”.

The Hessian Administrative Court (VGH) had only approved the rally on Friday evening.

The Kassel Administrative Court had previously prohibited the use of the motorway for the demonstration.

As early as Saturday, around 100 participants drove around 15 minutes on the A 49 at a bicycle demo in Kassel.

The demos were part of a

nationwide traffic turnaround day of action.
