06 June 2021According to the first projections, according to the first projections, the CDU wins the challenge of Saxony-Anhalt. In the central-eastern Land, the Christian Democrats come out victorious from the polls, managing to detach the Afd by over 13 points, with 36% of the votes against 22.5%, thus believing many of the predictions and polls on the eve they saw a closer result between the two parties. In the previous elections, the CDU had obtained 29.8% and the extreme right 24.3%.



According to the first Infratest-dimap projections for the first public channel Ard, the result of the SPD is well below expectations, which does not exceed 8.5% of the consents (they had 10.6%), as well as that of the Verdi, who are gaining support compared to the 2016 elections, but less than expected, stopping at 6.5% (they were at 5.2%).



Another important fact is the performance of the Fdp liberals, who with 6.5% of the votes exceed the threshold of 5% thus managing to re-enter the regional parliament. La Linke, the party of the radical left, collapsed to 11% of the vote, compared to 16.3%. 



The vote in Saxony-Anhalt was the last major election date just three and a half months after the federal elections on 26 September. If these results are confirmed, the coalition in office formed by CDU, SPD and Verdi and led by Governor Reiner Haseloff, should have the numbers to continue its experience of government.



CDU: "Sensational result"


"The center won, it was a sensational result": this is the first reaction of the CDU, winner of the awaited electoral contest in Saxony-Anhalt. According to the general secretary of the CDU, Paul Ziemiak, the "high profile" of the outgoing governor Reiner Haseloff was crucial for the victory, but also "the unity demonstrated by the party".



Speaking to the second public channel Zdf, Ziemiak added that "in no election for the renewal of the Land since 2017 the CDU has grown as with this vote".
