The minibus carrying several passengers was traveling on a road in Badghis, western Afghanistan, on Saturday night when it exploded on a mine. Several children are among the victims. There have been no claims to date, but the Taliban are known to lay mines on highways, in particular in order to cause as much damage as possible to the ranks of the Afghan security forces during their patrols. Many civilians are victims of these mines concealed on the sides of the roads.

In western Kabul, where the Hazara Shiite minority lives, minivans have been targeted for several weeks.

At least four such vehicles exploded from magnetic mines.

The drivers systematically check that no bomb has been attached to their minibus before getting behind the wheel,

” one resident explained to us.
