The Jordanian authorities announced that a number of members of the security forces were injured during events that occurred on Saturday evening in two areas of the capital, Amman.
The official Jordanian news agency (Petra) quoted the Ministry of Interior as saying that "armed attacks" targeted security forces in the Malha area near the Queen Alia International Airport road, and that some of their members were wounded.
In a separate statement published by the agency, the security services said that 4 members of a security force "dealed with riots in the Naour area were injured while they were being treated."
The media spokesman for the Public Security Directorate said that "a security force dealt with riots, burning vehicles and shooting in the air on Saturday evening by a group of people in the Naour area. As a result of these actions, 4 public security men were injured and they were taken to hospital."
Al-Jazeera correspondent had quoted a security source as saying that 4 members of the security forces were wounded while they were dealing with protests in the Naour area (south of the capital, Amman), and shots were heard in the area.
Facing the gathering invitations
Earlier, the Jordanian Ministry of Interior said - in a statement - that it is following up on calls to hold gatherings in violation of the law, like previous gatherings that included unacceptable manifestations that would prejudice societal peace and the rule of law, as she put it.
The ministry added that it calls on Jordanians to distance themselves from such illegal and unauthorized activities - according to the statement - stressing that it will not allow the establishment of such activities.
The statement of the Interior was considered a response to calls made by the resigning MP, Osama Al-Ajarmeh, to the clans to gather in solidarity with him after his resignation against the backdrop of tension between him and the Presidency of the House of Representatives.
