06 June 2021 "I don't know if I will play" in the round of 16 of Roland Garros against Matteo Berrettini. Roger Federer freezes expectations after qualifying by beating German Dominik Koepfer 7-6 (7/5), 6-7 (3/7 ), 7-6 (7/4), 7-5 in a closed-door match of three and a half hours.

"I have to decide whether to continue playing or not. Is it too risky to keep pushing the knee? Is it a good time to rest?" He asked himself at the press conference.

Returning to competition in March after two operations on his right knee in 2020, Federer, who will celebrate his 40th birthday in August, has made Wimbledon his top goal. "Every game I have to re-evaluate the situation and see the next morning what state I wake up in and how my knee is. And after a long game like today, it's even more true."
