According to statistics monitored by "Emirates Today", the Emirate of Ajman recorded, in March last year, four cases of drowning, as two Arab and Asian youths were rescued from drowning, while a third died in hospital, and the body of a fourth person of Arab nationality was found missing after searching. about for three hours.
In July last year, a fisherman from the city of Rams, north of Ras Al Khaimah, rescued four citizen children who drowned in Khor Al Rams, after they entered the area of sea currents and fell into an old artificial pit, where he managed to reach them with his speedboat before the scene turned into a tragedy. Humanitarian, as the fisherman received a call from a friend of his that there were four children who had been swept away by the sea.
And last May, three citizen children drowned in the sea of the city of Rams, north of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, as a result of high waves, strong water currents and sea turbulence, after they went out on a group trip to practice swimming, where one of them died at the age of 14, after being drowned and the two survived The other two after sticking to the rocks on the breakwater.
A five-year-old child died after being drowned on the beach of the Institute in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, last April, where he remained in intensive care in the hospital for 51 days, before he died as a result of his deteriorating health and ingestion of large quantities of sea water.
In Umm Al Quwain, a family trip for an Indian family turned into a tragic accident, after the husband, his wife and their child drowned on the shore of a lonely house, nine days ago, as the husband managed to save himself and get out tired from the sea, and the four-year-old girl was rescued by those present. On the beach, the wife died as a result of swallowing large amounts of water.
For his part, the Director of the Monitoring and Follow-up Branch at the Ports and Airports Police Department in Ras Al Khaimah, Major Aref Al Harnaki, indicated that the Directorate launched an awareness campaign for visitors to the emirate’s beaches, urging them to follow the instructions that prevent their safety and the safety of their family members from drowning, adding that the campaign aims to raise The level of awareness among community members and beachgoers, in light of the increasing demand for swimming with the start of the summer season.
He explained that families were urged to monitor their children while they are on the beaches, or to swim in the water, and to make sure that they wear life jackets while adhering to the practice of swimming in safe places, in addition to providing them with an idea of the state of waves and currents that pose a danger to swimmers.
He added that the campaign will continue throughout the summer months, to include all the beaches of the emirate, with the aim of reaching the largest possible number of beachgoers and spreading knowledge among them, stressing the importance of the parents' cooperation in the success of the campaign, and their keenness to monitor their children, considering that the responsibility for their safety lies in the first place. .
For its part, Umm Al Quwain Police called on sea-goers to take precautions, not to enter the sea when the waves rise dangerously, and to wear drowning protection equipment when swimming, and parents should pay attention to their children and not leave them unattended at all times when they go to the beaches to practice swimming.
