Former US President Donald Trump's abrupt decision to go to New York for a mixed martial arts competition in 2019 cost nearly a quarter of a million dollars, given that secret guards must provide a safe night for the president at exceptionally crowded weekend matches, according to federal records. Records obtained by The Daily News under the Access to Information Act revealed that the secret escorts were only given one week before Trump went to Manhattan for the Ultimate Fighting Championship competitions, and for only one night on November 2, 2019.

The incident caused so many logistical headaches for the Secret Service that they had to find hotel rooms for the dozens of clients guarding Trump on a weekend night.

Records indicated that the costs of reservations for Trump's guards in hotels amounted to 224 thousand and 212 dollars.

The newspaper obtained an email from one of the guards, in which he indicated that many hotel reservations were obtained at the last minute.

As for the remaining amount, which is 22,005 thousand, it was spent on the travel of the guards to the city and movement there, according to what the invoices indicated.

During Trump's visit to New York, the House of Representatives was in the midst of an investigation to impeach the president for the first time, and dozens of protesters gathered in front of Madison Square Garden.

As Trump entered the fight hall, boos erupted, while protesters chanted anti-Trump slogans outside the hall.
