Koganei, a satellite city in the northwest of Tokyo, with a population of 120,000.

At the plenary session held yesterday (3rd), the Koganei City Council adopted a written opinion requesting the government and Tokyo to cancel the Olympics.

He said that carrying out the Olympics as it is is far beyond the allowable limits from the viewpoint of respecting life and living, and that a responsible person should immediately make an appropriate judgment in light of the corona situation.

The city council will submit this opinion to Prime Minister Suga, Olympic Minister Marukawa and Tokyo Governor Koike.

This is the first time among the 61 elementary councils of Tokyo, the host city of the Olympics, to officially adopt an opinion to cancel the Olympics.

[Katayama/Koganei City Councilor: If the cancellation is decided this time, it will be an opportunity to reconsider what the real meaning of the Olympics is.]

Shigeru Omi, chairman of the Japanese government’s public-private joint subcommittee overseeing measures against coronavirus, also responded to the government’s policy of pushing ahead with the Olympics every day. We are publicly expressing our concerns.

As a doctor, I can't wait to see the infection situation in Tokyo and the possibility of mutation spreading before and after the Olympics.

[Omi / Doctor / Chairman of the Japan Corona Subcommittee: The Olympic Games are different in scale from normal events. If it is really held, you need to be prepared.]

Even if the Olympics are held, it seems that they are making a declaration of conscience that they should minimize the size, but there is an unpleasant response from within the Japanese government, and there are even signs of infighting.
