June 04 2021 There are several stories from the witnesses who were on the summit of Mottarone on May 23, the day of the massacre at the cable car that killed 14 people. "I heard a very loud and strange noise" says one hiker, speaking of a "whiplash" lasting 5 seconds. "I was able to see that a steel cable had come off, because it was falling to the ground," the man told the Stresa carabinieri on 25 May.

A hiker who was at the summit said that one of her hiking companions at one point warned her. "The cabin was almost over my head," he said. The woman didn't notice because she was looking at the view. "My legs were shaking, I was afraid," she explained.

I feel miraculous "because" if I hadn't moved, the cabin would probably have hit me. I heard a rustle "explained the woman, called as a witness to provide summary information about the incident. Then she heard" a kind of dry metal noise ". Finally the woman said she also saw that" the cabin was rocking ", as if" it had leaned on the ground ".

Luigi Nerini's son, one of the three under investigation for the massacre at the Mottarone cable car, told the carabinieri that he did not know how to indicate "what is" what "is commonly called" a stump "or" fork ". "It was explained to me by the head of service Gabriele Tadini that I should have worn it," said the young man. On May 25, Nerini's son also told the investigators that he had mounted it "on a couple of occasions" "at the disposal of Tadini", another of the three suspects, but specifies that it has always happened "with the system stopped and empty cabins".

Meeting at the Prosecutor's Office

A meeting between the prosecutors and the carabinieri dealing with the Mottarone disaster took place in the prosecutor's office in Verbania, to take stock of the investigations, also in light of the testimonies collected in recent days by the investigators, and also to decide which will be the next moves.

Technical checks on materials left in the field, contrast between prosecutor and defense

In the Verbania investigation into the Mottarone cable car disaster, yet another procedural dispute comes into play. The theme is that of the technical checks on the materials left in the field - or found immediately after the accident - from which the Prosecutor expects to have plausible indications regarding the causes of the breaking of the driving end, which caused the death of the 14 people on board absence of the safety brake system "inhibited" by the insertion of the famous "forks". On this front, a new conflict has opened since yesterday between the Prosecutor's Office and one of the defenses, that of the only suspect who was burdened by a precautionary measure, Gabriele Tadini, who is under house arrest. Because if so far there had been talk of the possibility of starting a "one-time technical assessment"on the cabin, on the broken cable, and on the other elements found on the slopes of Mottarone, yesterday Tadini's lawyer, Marcello Perillo, filed the request for a "probative accident".

In reality, Perillo and his two consultants also went up to Mottarone, and viewed the finds from afar. "We saw the cable which is covered by a plastic sheet - said Falco - and therefore it is not visible. The cabin is also covered". But was it not enough at this stage to examine the numerous photos that are on record? "I prefer to see with my own eyes - replied Guttadauria - because photos can be deceptive". "Everything can be useful to reconstruct what happened - concluded the lawyer Perillo - and for this, for example, we asked for the original video, and we want to know if there are other videos, since the cameras on the route are different" .

On the request for an evidentiary incident, the investigating judge Donatella Banti Bonamici will decide, after hearing the opinion of the prosecutor. Meanwhile, on Monday at Mottarone there will be another inspection, the one ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office to evaluate how to remove the wreck of the cabin, starting the phase of unrepeatable investigations.
