The correctional court of Béziers (Hérault) on Wednesday sentenced a 68-year-old man, who was on trial for having fatally struck a biker, on April 14, in Faugères (Hérault), to five years in prison.

The justice also pronounced against him the cancellation of his driving license for ten years and the confiscation of his vehicle, which was not insured, indicates Raphaël Balland, the public prosecutor of Béziers.

During the trial, the sixty-year-old, married father of three, who was about to retire, admitted his responsibility, "saying he should not have taken the wheel to go to a medical appointment. in Béziers ”, continues the prosecutor.

Passing several vehicles

According to the investigations carried out by the gendarmes, the driver had undertaken to overtake several vehicles, despite the lack of visibility and the continuous line.

He had collided with the motorcyclist, traveling in the opposite direction, throwing him several meters from the point of impact.

The victim, a 59-year-old man, died instantly.

The driver had already been convicted three times for traffic offenses.
