In the clip, you hear how Björn Walfridsson views his long waiting time.

Björn Walfridsson's umbilical hernia means that he has a hole in the peritoneum in his stomach.

It is not life-threatening, but Björn gets hurt if he tries too hard.

The care guarantee states that surgery must take place within 90 days.

On September 24 - seven months after the operation announcement - Björn was asked by the region if they would try to arrange an operation for him in another region, or if he wanted to do it in Värnamo during the first half of 2021. Björn chose Värnamo and has now waited for 480 days on surgery.

The region is forced to prioritize

The region has 800 patients in line for surgery.

Of them, 100 have agreed to the possibility of surgery in another region and 50 of them have so far been operated on that way.

- We always do cancer surgery and emergency operations.

Then we have to prioritize and umbilical hernia is in the last priority group, even though we know that it can be difficult for the individual who has to wait, says Mats Persborn, operations manager for the surgery clinic in the county.

Performed relatively many operations

The Jönköping region says that they put a lot of work into trying to get the priority to be as good and fair as possible based on medical assessments.

- We are not satisfied with the situation we are in. At the same time, we have worked intensively with the issue and still managed to operate relatively much despite the ongoing pandemic, says Mats Persborn.

17 percent of those waiting for surgery in the county have waited longer than the national care guarantee. It is clearly better than the national average of 44 percent.
