A hat store in Nashville, Tennessee (USA), has been the target of protests and the withdrawal of suppliers after it offered gold stars to identify those not vaccinated against Covid-19, a badge that its critics have linked to the
used one. by the Nazis to identify the Jews
.
HatWRKS posted an ad on its Instagram account on Friday promoting
Star of David
patches for sale
with the caption "Not vaccinated,"
the US network CNN posted on Sunday.
"The patches are here. They looked great.
Five dollars each
. Strong adhesive on the back. We will be offering trucker caps soon," the post read.
The notice, which was
later withdrawn
, was the subject of complaints from residents who gathered at the doors of the establishment on Saturday to protest what they considered an "anti-Semitic" message.
"The images of the holocaust are not for selling hats," read one of the posters carried by one of the participants in the rally, while another said that the holocaust is not for GOP marketing, apparently
in allusion to the party republican
.
Following the rally, hat maker John B. Stetson announced on his Twitter account on Saturday that "as a result of the offensive content and opinions shared by HatWRKS in Nashville" they
would stop selling all of their products to that store.
That firm, in a previous message on the same network, had condemned "anti-Semitism and discrimination of any kind." In recent weeks, Republican lawmaker Marjorie
Taylor Greene
, linked to the QAnon conspiracy movement, has been in the middle of a controversy for having compared the order to wear a mask in the US Congress with the Holocaust.
Greene said in the space 'The Water Cooler with David Brody' that the order to wear a mask recalled "a time in history in which people were told to wear a gold star" and were treated as "citizens of second class, "to the point where
they were put on trains and taken to gas chambers
in Nazi Germany.
His comments have led to criticism from his fellow party members and Democrats.
