Gathered in Accra this Sunday following a new coup by the Malian military, the member countries of ECOWAS have decided to suspend Mali, said one of the heads of state present to the RFI special envoy.

After long discussions, the heads of state and government have decided to suspend Mali from the institutions of the ECOWAS (Community of West African States)

", said the ten heads of state in a statement. present at the ECOWAS summit in Accra, this Monday, May 30, 2021.

The heads of state are calling for the immediate release of the former president and prime minister of the transition who are still under house arrest.

They also condemn the coup, which is " 

a violation of the decisions taken at the extraordinary summit held in Aburi, Ghana on September 15, 2020 

".

They " 

call for the immediate appointment of a prime minister from civil society 

" and according to them, a new inclusive government must also be formed to implement the transition program.

Finally, the press release calls for the initial timetable to be maintained, in order to lead to a presidential election on February 27, 2022.
