In detail, the Minister of Health of Vietnam, Nguyen Than Luong, said during a national meeting to discuss the epidemic yesterday, "We discovered a new hybrid version of the Indian and British versions."

He continued, “One of the distinguishing features of this version is its rapid transmission through the air.

The concentration of the virus in the throat fluids increases rapidly and spreads very strongly in the surrounding environment.”

He did not specify the number of infections that were recorded in the new version, but he stated that Vietnam would soon announce its discovery on the world map of genetic mutants.

The Ministry of Health reported that there were seven known mutated versions of the coronavirus in Vietnam before Long's announcement.

Vietnam is trying hard to deal with a new outbreak of the virus in more than half of its territory, including in industrial areas and major cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau said in a note that five streets in the downtown Liyuan District had been identified as "high-risk areas", and residents had been ordered to stay at home while the COVID checks were completed.

Local health officials said they believe the small outbreak in Guangzhou may be linked to a 75-year-old woman who tested positive for the mutated version of the virus first identified in India.
