King Felipe, accompanied by Doña Letizia, presided over the celebration of the Armed Forces Day this Saturday.

Although this year due to the pandemic it has been conceived as

a smaller format,

it has been intended to make a small military parade to get closer to the public.

515 soldiers

have attended the meeting, in which in addition to the Kings were the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the mayor of the city, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

At eleven thirty in the morning the Kings arrived, who were received with applause by nearly

half a thousand citizens

who have approached the Plaza de la Lealtad in Madrid and who for several minutes have not stopped

dedicating cheers to the King .

Don Felipe has chosen the dress uniform of the Navy and carried in hand

the flare

that was given to him on the Military Easter of 2016. The Queen has opted for a pink coat.

A detachment of the Royal Guard has been in charge of receiving Their Majesties at the foot of the Plaza de la Lealtad.

Due to the sun that shone in Madrid, where the temperature will exceed 30 degrees,

two soldiers have fainted

and had to be treated and left the parade amid applause from those present.

After the arrival of the Kings, the band of the Royal Guard has interpreted

the national anthem

while firing salutes.

Next, Don Felipe

reviewed the troops

and stood next to the Queen at the foot of the monument to the fallen by Spain, which is located on the Paseo del Prado and which was inaugurated on May 2, 1840 to render tribute to the fallen.

In addition to the aforementioned authorities,

Teodoro López Calderón

, Chief of the Defense Staff;

Esperanza Casteleiro

, Secretary of State for Defense;

María Gámez

, head of the Civil Guard;

Mercedes González,

delegate of the Government of Madrid and

Emilio Juan

, head of the Military Room of the Royal House.

After the tribute to the Fallen,

the Eagle Patrol

flew over the Paseo del Prado before starting the small military parade made up of a mixed battalion.

After the end of the parade, Don Felipe held a meeting by videoconference with the troops deployed abroad.
