May 29, 2021The wedding between Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his girlfriend Carrie Symonds would have already been held in great secret. This is what the British tabloids "The Sun" and "Mail on Sunday" have revealed, specifying that the wedding was celebrated in Westminster Cathedral with a small group of family and friends.

From Downing Street comes a sharp "no comment" to requests for confirmation: "I have strict instructions not to comment," a spokesperson said.

Press revelations about the alleged secret wedding come just days after the couple said they sent a note to friends and family to say they were getting married on July 30, 2022.

According to "The Sun", even senior Downing Street officials would have been completely unaware of the secret marriage.

Engaged since December 2019, Boris Johnson, 56 and two other marriages behind them, and Carrie Symonds, 33, had Wilfred, the sixth child of the British premier, a year ago. Symonds is a practicing Catholic, while Johnson left his mother's Catholicism for the Anglican Church when he was in Eton.

One of the guests, reveals the tabloid "Mail on Sunday", described the bride as "extremely happy" and the premier "very elegant" and "unable to look away from the bride". Johnson's father Stanley was photographed in front of Downing Street this afternoon with his daughter Julia. Johnson and Symonds were the first unmarried couple to move into the British premier's residence.

According to the tabloids, about thirty people attended the ceremony and all received the invitation at the last minute. The wedding was celebrated in the Catholic cathedral by Father Daniel Humphries, the same one who baptized the couple's son last year.

For "The Sun" the covert operation was prepared for months, and today, shortly after 1.30pm, the church was emptied, with staff telling visitors that it was going into lockdown. Half an hour later, the premier's wife arrived in a limousine shortly after, wearing a long white dress, without a veil.

It is the first time in 199 years that a prime minister in office has married, the last one was Lord Liverpool who in 1822 married Mary Chester.
