Yesterday, the Roads and Transport Authority opened a main bridge on Al Khaleej Street with a length of 570 meters, with a capacity of three lanes towards Bur Dubai, and a superficial intersection on Al Khaleej Street with Omar Bin Al Khattab Street, as part of the Shindagha Corridor development project, which is one of the largest road projects and strategic axes that It is currently being implemented by the authority, and extends from Sheikh Rashid Street through Al Mina Street and Al Khaleej Street to Cairo Street, with a length of 13 km.

Matar Muhammad Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said: “The bridge has a capacity of 4800 vehicles per hour, and serves the traffic movement on Al Khaleej Street coming from the intersection of Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street and the traffic coming from the Deira Islands towards Al Shindagha Tunnel, providing continuity of free movement on the roads. The length of Al Khaleej Street, as well as the opening of the surface intersection controlled by traffic lights between Al Khaleej Street and Omar Bin Al Khattab Street.

He pointed out that "the traffic coming from Al Mamzar area, from the intersection of Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street, and from the Deira Islands, shifted to the new bridge, and then to the surface intersection on Al Khaleej Street with Omar Bin Al Khattab Street, and the project took into account the application of all traffic safety requirements such as lighting and signs. Floor and directional boards according to the approved designs, to ensure the highest levels of traffic safety for road users and pedestrians.”

Al Tayer explained that “the percentage of completion in the current contracts under implementation in the Shindagha axis development project has reached 70%, and due to its magnitude, it has been divided into five phases that constitute a strategic axis that serves many development projects in the region, such as: Deira Islands, Dubai Waterfront, and Dubai City. Navigational Center, Port Rashid, and accommodate future traffic volumes, and when the project is completed, the project will contribute to reducing the average journey time on the Shindagha axis from 104 minutes to 16 minutes.”

He added: "The authority has completed two phases in the last period, namely the development of the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Street with Oud Maitha Street (Wafi Intersection), and the development of the intersection of Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Streets. Work is underway to implement the third phase, which includes the implementation of the Shindagha Bridge and the development of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. The Corniche and the intersections on Al Khaleej Street, in addition to the development of Al Saqr Intersection, while the authority opened last August the bridges leading to the entrances and exits of the Deira Islands at Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street.

Al Tayer indicated that the future plans of the Al Shindagha Corridor project include the implementation of the fourth phase, which includes the development of Al Khaleej Street and the intersection of Al Khaleej Street with Abu Hail Street, and the development of the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Street with Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street and Al Mankhool Street. This stage is expected to be completed at the end of 2025. The plan also includes the implementation of the fifth phase, which includes the implementation of bridges leading to the Deira islands from the south, and this phase is expected to be completed in 2027.
