The Ministry of Community Development stated, in a report presented to the Federal National Council, last Tuesday, that the divorce rates among citizens benefiting from marriage grants decreased from 14% in 2015 to 4% by the end of 2020.

She revealed the results of a study she recently conducted, in cooperation with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority and the UAE University, on the "family and societal cohesion among the citizens of the country" indicator.

The results of the study, obtained by «Emirates Today», showed an increase in the national affiliation index among members of national families to 99%, and the percentage of family cohesion between spouses to 97%, while the rates of the relationship with the large family (the family) reached 98.5%.

In detail, the Minister of Community Development, Hessa bint Issa Buhumaid, presented, during her participation in the Federal National Council session, last Tuesday, the most prominent efforts made by the ministry during the past three years to emphasize the state's vision of a "cohesive family and a cohesive society", explaining that the ministry implemented a package of initiatives. Policies and legislation that enhance the interdependence of the single family and ensure a better quality of life for all its members, by quickly reaching and delivering proactive services to the target groups, and launching qualitative initiatives that keep pace with social changes and developments within the framework of a work vision that places the family in the center of its attention.

31 family initiatives

Buhumaid said that the ministry launched, during the past three years, 31 policies, initiatives and programs for family cohesion and community cohesion, which included providing the best services to all groups, including 10 initiatives in 2018, which included the national family policy, the work policy for people of determination, the national policy for senior citizens, and the executive regulations. The Law on the Rights of the Child (Wadeema), support for families of prisoners and people with limited income, employment of people of determination, the Goodwill Initiative, in addition to family initiatives, represented in the program for preparing family counseling (Ta’alouf), granting marriage and group weddings, and programs for productive families.

She added: "The ministry continued its efforts in 2019, as it launched eight initiatives, including the family protection policy, the Emirates code for the qualified environment, your communication service (for senior citizens), the policy to protect people of determination from abuse, the federal law for senior citizens, the completion of the family income and expenditure survey, the launch of The Coordinating Council for Family Policies, the Employment Guide for People of Determination, granting child protection specialists the status of judicial control officers, and the precautionary measures and circumstances resulting from confronting the pandemic (Covid-19), last year, did not prevent us from continuing our efforts for family cohesion, as 13 initiatives were launched. According to the report presented by the minister during the session, the most prominent initiatives of the national family policy were the "Marriage Preparation Program", which included lectures to qualify those who are about to get married to help them assume responsibility.

The report indicated that the ministry launched the "Your Financial Adviser" initiative, which is an integrated program aimed at enhancing financial awareness in the family and society, spreading a culture of sound financial planning and reducing unplanned consumption, by providing financial advice and training workshops, benefiting 4,722 people, in addition to To the "My Family" program, which aims to enhance community members' awareness of family independence, and the number of participants reached 9855.

At the level of “Family Relations”, the Ministry launched “Family Counseling Services” (Ta’alouf), which is free family counseling through the official channels of the Ministry, for all members of society of all nationalities, to provide guidance on ways to resolve marital and family disputes, and the report pointed out that the number of family counseling provided by The initiative amounted to 1,344 until last year, while the ministry, through the “councils” program in social development centers, raised issues that would affect family cohesion and cohesion, as the number of beneficiaries reached 698, in addition to the “Ta’alouf Live” initiative, which is a variety of weekly episodes of a nature Social in the family, health and life training fields, broadcast through the live broadcast feature on the “Instagram” platform of the Ministry.

The minister revealed the results of the latest study conducted by the executive team to study family and community cohesion, in cooperation with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, related to measuring social reality and keeping abreast of developments, leading to monitoring results and indicators that enhance the vision of social work in the coming years.

According to the report, a study was prepared on the family and community cohesion index, during the period from 2017 to 2019, within 10 axes, including five axes related to family cohesion, and five axes concerned with community cohesion.

The results concluded in the first axis (family cohesion) that the rates of the relationship with the large family (the family) increased during 2019 to 98.5% instead of 74% in 2017, while the indicators of the relationship between brothers and sisters increased from 86% to 96%, and the indicators of the relationship between children increased and parents from 66% to 80%, between parents and children from 69% to 75%, and the proportion of cohesion between spouses from 78% in 2017 to 97% in 2019.
