Last year, SVA announced that as a result of climate change, we may see more mosquitoes in general in Sweden

- Some species seem to increase their distribution.

They benefit from this heat, Anders Lindström said then.

Established on Gotland

Some types of mosquitoes have also begun to establish themselves in places where they have not existed before.

SVT has previously reported on Gotland, where people in recent years have begun to be stung by the aggressive and day-active spring swimming mosquitoes.

Even though the species has never been there before.

There are also areas in Sweden that are particularly vulnerable.

Around the lower Dalälven, in some parts of Värmland and Norrbotten, the mosquitoes have taken over so much that they have been required to spray with so-called bti control.

"A shock is coming now"

Due to the humid spring weather we have seen this year, and the current heat, we will soon be able to experience more mosquitoes, in different parts of the country.

Some areas are particularly vulnerable, especially where there is a risk of flooding.

And the problem with the bti control is that it can only be deployed when the water levels reach their peak.

- Then it remains to be seen what the summer will be like, says Anders Lindström.
