There will be no independent commission of inquiry in Congress into the assault on Capitol Hill on January 6.

The Senate opposed it.

Only six Republican senators voted in favor of the creation of this bipartisan commission;

they would have had to be ten for it to be created.

The outlines of the commission of inquiry had been drawn up by elected officials from both parties.

Five Republicans and five Democrats were to sit on it.

But Donald Trump said he was opposed to the creation of this commission of inquiry and only six Republican senators dared to challenge him, reports our correspondent in Washington,

.

Chuck Schumer, leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, immediately denounced the hold of the former president on the opposition party: "

Out of fear or loyalty to Donald Trump, the Republican minority in the Senate has just prevented the American people get the whole truth on Jan.6.

With this vote, it's official: Donald Trump's big lie completely envelops the Republican Party.

"

Donald Trump's Big Lie is now the defining principle of what was once the party of Lincoln.

Among Republicans, Senators Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman, Mitt Romney and Ben Sasse voted "yes" in the committee's procedural vote on Friday.

The others, behind their leader in the Senate Mitch McConnell, opposed it, seeing in its creation a "

purely political exercise

" which would add nothing to the police investigations already underway, with nearly 450 arrests among the rioters. .

Democrats are not going to stop there.

Nancy Pelosi said they would investigate Jan.6 anyway.

A committee will undoubtedly be created in the House of Representatives.

Republicans who opposed a bipartisan investigation will have a good time denouncing the lack of independence of this body.
