DECRYPTION - Policewoman

attacked with a knife: what do we know about the suspect, who died after his arrest?

"I breathe," says Didier, one of the inhabitants of the town of 20,000 inhabitants north of Nantes.

"It's a woman who is part of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, who is always there for us. She comes to say hello to us every morning," says another.

"All the Chaplains know her, because she is in contact with everyone in the market place. As soon as we have small problems, we go to see Katell", describes another inhabitant.

Because in the town, it's been a long time that we call and that we rub shoulders with Katell.

This 47-year-old woman, mother of a young man, has been working for two decades in the town where she started out as a young job.

An attacker with psychiatric disorders

His assailant had just moved there after his recent release from prison at the end of March.

Despite serious psychiatric disorders and legal obligations, Fabrice Roussel, the mayor of La Chapelle-sur-Erdre, had not been informed of his presence.

"This is a question that must obviously be asked, but the arrival was very recent, and so I was perhaps going to have information," he says.

"I don't even know if the gendarmerie had been informed of the presence of this person in the town."

It was the gendarmes who put an end to the attacker's run at midday.

The latter was killed in a lively exchange of gunfire, only a few hundred meters from the Territorial Brigade.
