• PSOE The pardons sharpen the division in the PSOE and the barons warn that the moderate vote will be lost

  • Concordemos Tribune in Colón, by Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo

The civic activism platform

Unión 78

, promoted by

Rosa Díez

,

Fernando Savater

and

María San Gil

among others, has summoned citizens to a rally on Sunday June 13 in the

Plaza de Colón

in

Madrid

against the granting of pardons to politicians Catalans convicted of sedition and embezzlement.

It is one of the first initiatives that aims to channel the discontent and rejection of citizens to the foreseeable concession by the Government of Pedro Sánchez of the grace of pardon to the prisoners of the

procés

despite his declared willingness to challenge the state again.

Union 78's

appeal

also seeks to convey explicit support to

the Judiciary

which they consider "attacked by

Sánchez

", as well as to make clear their defense of "equality before the law of all Spaniards without exception."

The platform has issued a manifest statement in which it calls "very serious" the attacks by the Government and the political forces that support it "on the division of powers" and "equality before the law." In short,

Unión 78

considers that

Sánchez

intends with the granting of the pardon to amend the plan to the

Supreme Court

thus interfering not only in the decision of the high sentencing court but also ignoring its devastating report against the grace measure.

Union 78

warns of the "progressive dismantling of State functions, reduced", in its opinion, "to mere support of an irresponsible and sectarian government that intends to suspend the Constitution by way of fait accompli."

The pardons planned by the Government for the condemned on October

1

"have no other purpose", in the opinion of the civic platform, "than to retain the parliamentary majority to stay in

La Moncloa

at any cost."

They thus affect the conviction that the grace would be granted not for the benefit of the general interest as promoted by the Executive, but to shore up their particular interests.

In short, they subscribe to the thesis of "self-indult" to continue in Moncloa with the support of the independence movement.
