May 28, 2021 The reports of accidents at work submitted to Inail by last April amounted to 171,870, a decrease of 449 cases (-0.3%) compared to 172,319 in the first quarter of 2020. a statement, where he explains that "the 0.3% decrease for the entire period is the synthesis of a decrease in complaints observed in the first two months of January-February (-12%) and an increase in the second two months of March-April (+ 17%), in the comparison between the two years ".

However, Inail underlines, "the comparison between the first four months of 2020 and 2021 requires a lot of caution and is to be considered of little significance due to the Coronavirus phenomenon which introduced, especially for fatal injuries, a manifest 'delay' in the report , anomalous but very relevant, generalized in all months, but amplified especially in March 2020, the month of the beginning of the pandemic, which invalidates the comparison with the first months of 2021 ".

The data collected at 30 April of each year, we read in a press release from the Institute, show at a national level a decrease only in accidents while commuting, that is, occurring in the round trip between the home and the workplace, which they recorded a decrease of 3.3%, from 19,660 to 19,011, as opposed to cases that occurred at work, which showed a slight increase of 0.1%, from 152,659 to 152,859.

The number of reported accidents at work increased by 2.3% in the Industry and services management (from 142,256 cases in 2020 to 145,569 in 2021) and by 7.4% in Agriculture (from 7,651 to 8,218), while it decreased by 19 , 3% in the State Account (from 22,412 to 18,083).

As for the territorial analysis, Inail detects a decrease in complaints only in the North-West (-13.5%), unlike the Islands (+ 8.4%), the South (+ 7.1%), Center (+ 6.5%) and the North-East (+ 6.3%).

Finally, the slight decline that emerges from the comparison of the first four months of 2020 and 2021 is linked only to the female component, which records a -10.3% (from 74,878 to 67,155 complaints), while the male component shows an increase of 7.5 % (from 97,441 to 104,715).

306 reports of fatal accidents in the January-April period

The reports of accidents at work with a fatal outcome presented to Inail between January and April were 306, or 26 more than the 280 registered in the first quarter of 2020 (+ 9.3%) and in line with those of the first quarter of 2019. (303 fatal events). This was announced by the Institute in a press release where, however, it explains how the comparison between 2020 and 2021 requires caution "since the data of the deadly complaints of the monthly open data, more than those of the complaints as a whole, are provisional and strongly influenced by the pandemic, with the result of not counting a significant number of 'late' fatal reports of Covid-19 contagion, in particular from March 2020, which entered the archives only and the months following the photograph taken on April 30, 2020 ". The Institute also highlights how "the deaths caused by Covid-19 occur after a more or less long period of time elapsed from the date of the infection ".

The data collected at 30 April of each year show for the first four months of 2021 a decrease only in ongoing cases, which went from 60 to 48, while those occurring during work were 38 more (from 220 to 258). The increase, according to Inail, concerned all three insurance management in Industry and services (from 253 to 263 complaints), Agriculture (from 15 to 25) and the State Account (from 12 to 18).

The territorial analysis shows an increase in the North-East (from 51 to 66 fatal cases), in the Center (from 44 to 56) and in the South (from 62 to 87). The number of deaths, on the other hand, is decreasing in the North-West (from 104 to 80) and in the Islands (from 19 to 17). The increase observed in the comparison between the first four months of 2020 and 2021 is linked both to the male component, whose fatal cases reported went from 256 to 277, and to the female component, which went from 24 to 29 cases.

Complaints of occupational disease are on the rise

The complaints of occupational disease registered by Inail in the first four months of 2021 were 18,629, 3,861 more than in the same period of 2020 (+ 26.1%), a summary of a decrease of 26% in the January-February period and of a 154% increase in that of March-April, in the comparison between the two years. This was announced by the Institute in a press release, where it observes how "the pathologies reported" therefore "return" to increase, after a 2020 strongly conditioned by the pandemic, with complaints constantly decreasing in comparison with the previous year ".

The increase involved Industry and services (+ 24.9%, from 12,231 to 15,278 cases), Agriculture (+ 34.2%, from 2,365 to 3,175), State account (+ 2.3%, from 172 to 176) and all the territorial areas of the country: North-West (+ 8.9%), North-East (+ 34.8%), Center (+ 31.8%), South (+ 31.1%) and Islands ( + 1.9%).

From a gender perspective, there were 2,851 more reports of occupational disease for workers, from 10,759 to 13,610 (+ 26.5%), and 1,010 more for female workers, from 4,009 to 5,019 (+ 25.2%).

Both the complaints of Italian workers, which went from 13,716 to 17,281 (+ 26.0%), and those of EU citizens, from 362 to 410 (+ 13.3%), and non-EU citizens, from 690 to 938 ( + 35.9%).

Pathologies of the osteo-muscular system and of the connective tissue, of the nervous system and of the ear continue to represent, even in the first quarter of 2021, the first three occupational diseases reported, followed by those of the respiratory system and tumors.
