In Frankfurt the Greens, SPD and Volt have agreed to new talks with the FDP in order to save the coalition agreement that the Liberals have surprisingly rejected.

The three parties announced on Friday that they wanted to sit down with the FDP this weekend.

However, changes to the agreement paper of the planned “Ampel Plus” city government ruled out the Greens, SPD and Volt.

"But we are of the opinion that this contract would be good for Frankfurt and that we must use every opportunity to be able to implement it," said a joint statement.

No the liberals

On Wednesday, the FDP rejected the coalition agreement, which had already been negotiated, with a narrow majority of 80 to 78 votes and called for another round of negotiations.

The main points of criticism were the future transport and financial policy in Hesse's largest city.

It was originally expected that all four parties would agree to the contract by Wednesday evening.

The planned coalition had presented the 223-page contract with the headline “Shaping a New Frankfurt” last week after weeks of negotiations.

He focuses on combating traffic jams, the housing shortage and the climate crisis.
