- We take it seriously that PFAS is in elevated levels in the four lakes in question and will continue to work on this, says Signe Noresson, marine environment manager at Växjö municipality.

Previously, the municipality has not found it necessary to introduce recommendations regarding the fish, but after the guideline value has been tightened by the EU, the municipality makes a different assessment.

- Eating fish that contains PFAS does not involve an acute risk, but it is important to limit the intake of the substance over a long period of time, says Signe Noresson.

No risk with bath

The municipality sees no reason for concern after the new recommendations.

And it is still possible to swim in the lakes without risk.

- We assess that there is no risk of swimming in the lakes close to the city because the uptake of PFAS mainly takes place via food and drink, says Signe Noresson.

Växjö municipality will continue to take samples from the lakes continuously.
