The percentage of women hired this spring among national civil servants reached a record high of 37%.

According to the Cabinet Personnel Bureau, 9090 national civil servants were hired this spring, with 5728 men and 3362 women.

Women accounted for 37% of the total, up 0.2 points from last year to a record high, achieving the target of 35% included in the Basic Plan for Gender Equality decided last year.

Of the ministries and agencies that hired more than 100 people, the highest percentage of women was in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 47.9%, followed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare at 41.8%, and the Ministry of Justice at 41.6%. Was 24.7% by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

On the other hand, the percentage of women in “general employment” who are so-called “career bureaucrats” was 34.1%, which was below the target of 35%.

At a press conference, Minister Kono, who is in charge of the national civil service system, said, "If the proportion of women increases, the number of people who will give birth and raise children while building a career will increase. Reform will become more and more important. "
