The fact that the care staff has been forced to wear mouth guards for such a long time has been tough, both for staff and care recipients.

- It has been an extra burden for the staff, that's it.

But also for the care recipients who have not been able to see the faces of the staff who care for them, says Maria Marklund, head of care hygiene in Västerbotten.

If the spread of infection continues to go in the right direction, the municipal staff will soon have to put away the mouth guards.

- When it can happen depends on the situation, but we will return to each municipality when it is time for it.

I do not have an exact date now, but in June, or early July.

"Very nice"

Johan Lagerström works as a care assistant at the Lundagård nursing home in Umeå municipality.

For him, this is a welcome message.

- I think there are many who will think that it is very nice to avoid mouth protection.

I also think it will be positive for those we care about.

The demented, for example, have no idea what the pandemic is.

And they think it's weird that we have mouth guards and visors.
