27 May 2021At the end of a throbbing derby, Venezia wins promotion after the double challenge with Cittadella, thus reaching Empoli and Salernitana in Serie A. In the return to Penzo, the lagunari drew 1-1, after winning the first leg match at the Tombolato 1-0, regaining the top flight after 19 years.

The guests took the lead on 26 'of the first half with Proia and pressed the hosts, ten of them after Marchetti's red card in the 37th minute. In the second half the orange-blacks regain control of the game and equalized with Bocalon in full recovery, in the 93rd minute. By virtue of their best league position, Venezia would have obtained promotion even in the event of a 0-1 defeat.

For the team from the province of Padua, it is the second defeat in the playoff final in two years, after the knockout with Verona in 2018-19.

Venezia was missing from Serie A, where they played 12 championships, from the 2001-2002 season and thus celebrates their success.
