A 39-year-old man was indicted Wednesday for "murder of a concubine".

He is suspected of having killed with several hammer blows Monday in Arpajon, in Essonne, a mother with whom he said he had a relationship, the Evry prosecutor's office said on Thursday.

The suspect was also indicted for "attempted murder" against a friend of his concubine.

Present in the apartment at the time of the facts, this friend was allegedly injured when she tried to come between the suspect and the 30-year-old victim.

According to the first elements of the investigation gathered Monday from a police source, the two women would have come "to spend the weekend" with the suspect who had been living alone for two months in an apartment in Arpajon, a town of more than 10,000 inhabitants located about thirty km south of Paris.

One of the victim's children witnessed the murder

Then, investigators established an emotional bond between the suspect and the victim, both Eritreans.

The man said he has been in a relationship for several months with the mother.

The dispute would have arisen because the victim envisaged the arrival in France of the father of his second child, explained the parquet floor of Evry.

On Monday, the victim's children, a 2.5-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, were woken up by screams and the boy "witnessed the scene," a police source said.

The collective "Feminicides by companions or ex" has identified at least 44 feminicides since the beginning of the year, including this new murder.

In 2020, 90 feminicides were recorded by the Ministry of the Interior, against 146 the previous year.
