- The spread of infection in the county is admittedly still high, but has decreased by over 70 percent since mid-April and no longer stands out nationally, at the same time as the burden on healthcare has now begun to decline.

From an overall public health perspective, it is then reasonable to allow relief for, among other things, sports activities, not least with regard to the well-being of children and young people.

At the end of April, the Swedish Public Health Agency announced that children and young people born in 2002 and later would be allowed to start competing or play individual matches again.

But the high spread of infection in Västernorrland put an end to this.

The competition stop in the county would first apply until 21 May for all sports, but was then extended until 4 June.

Reduced spread of infection

Recently, the spread of infection in the county has decreased significantly and fewer corona patients are cared for in hospitals.

As for other local recommendations in Västernorrland, an announcement is expected on Friday.

Important for young people's health

Sports and community are seen as important factors for young people's physical and mental health, says the Public Health Agency, which in its decisions needed to balance this against the need to reduce the spread of infection.

The Swedish Public Health Agency assesses in a report that society as a whole can return to a normal situation in September 2021.
