The rain clouds have been heavy over large parts of Sweden recently.

- In several places, there has been more precipitation in just a few days than it usually does in the whole month, says SVT's meteorologist Tora Tomasdottir.

One of those places is Gårdsjö in Gullspång.

60 millimeters in one day

Here, 49.9 millimeters of rain fell on Wednesday between 8 and 20, according to SMHI.

If you count the whole day, from 8 o'clock on Wednesday morning to 8 on Thursday, it is about 60.7 millimeters.

This makes the small town the wettest in Sweden.

An average month of May, the town's total precipitation is 52.2 millimeters - in total.

Gårdsjöbo: Hoping for sun

Anders Persson, who has lived in Gårdsjö since 1960, had to help a neighbor on Thursday morning who had the basement flooded during the downpours.

- It was extreme, it usually is not like this otherwise.

I see for myself at the back of my property that it has been formed as lakes.

Do you think it will dry up now, or are you ready for more rain?

- So far we had done well, but now it was as if it all came at once.

But now it looks like there will be a break and nice weather for a few days.
